Active Rest

Does your workout require you to rest more than exercise?  Most workout routines require rest period of anywhere from one to three minutes.  Resting is important and helps you prepare for your next exercise set,  but, if your goal is to transform your body, long periods of rest mean you may not be properly utilizing your time in the gym.  And besides, who wants to be that person hogging the machines?

We love active rest.  This keeps your heart rate elevated during your resting periods. So how does it work?

Instead of walking around or sitting down during your resting period between sets, try throwing in some jumping jacks, abdominal exercises, shadow boxing, high knees, jogging in place etc. You’ll burn more calories and achieve your goals much faster.  Here’s some more details on how active rest can work for you.

Benefits of Active Rest

Keeps heart rate elevated

  • Maintaining an elevated heart rate will add excitement to your workout and continue to challenge your body to work harder

Burn more calories

  • The more calories your burn the greater your results will be.  Adding active rest to your workout can help you burn an extra 200-300 calories.  This is a great component if you don’t have much time spare in the gym.

Improves results

  • Seeing results faster will keep you motivated and encouraged to meet, reach and set new goals

So forget about taking long breaks. Active rest can help you burn over 1,000 extra calories during any given week and just may be what you need to help you supercharge your workout and achieve your fitness goals.
