Activist, Athlete and Artist, Andia Winslow – Fitness With A View [Travel]

Published

How did you come up with the moniker “Fitness Activist”?

Inherent in the definition of ‘Activist’ is “direct vigorous action.” I support it, I live it. “Action!,” is what a Director calls out to initiate filming. Action, the opposite of inaction, the creation or alteration of force: of natural bodies and societal norms. ‘Fitness,’ the capacity to survive — to thrive! The moniker was solidified two years ago when Author and Political Activist Kevin Powell called me out in a television interview. I’m an Activist whose main concern is to get people moving, to advocate for self-care and survival, to empower change.

What inspires your artistic approach to fitness?

I’m inspired by movement. Movement of the human body. Movement of images. Movement of voices. I try to answer every day ‘What is the call to action?’, and for me, it’s ACTION! Kinetic storytelling, that is what motivates me. As an athlete and a filmmaker, that’s the only way that I know how to approach fitness. From the lens of fluidity, form and function. Color, strength and persistence.

If you could travel anywhere where would you go? What type of workout would you do to take advantage of the environment?

Denali, North America’s Tallest Peak in my home state, Alaska and Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. Hiking and trail running settles my soul. Aspire to get to the top and become inspired by the expanse when you get there. The reward is a full body workout and visual appealing journey.
