BFT Welcomes New Editions to the Team

We are pleased to announce the newest editions to the Black Fitness Today team!


Javes Lewis is a name that is familiar to many in the football world. As a former University of Oregon standout defensive back, Javes earned a full-athletic scholarship and went on to help lead the Ducks to the 2011 BCS National Championship game. Although the Ducks lost, Javes is familiar with winning at the highest level. His hard work, focus and dedication landed him in the NFL as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs preseason squad (2011), and in the CFL as a member of the Toronto Argonauts (2011-2012).

Javes understands and values the benefits of exercise and physical training, which ultimately led to his pursuit and achievement of becoming a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and is currently working on the certifying body’s Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) certification to accompany his athletic knowledge and experience in helping other athletes achieve high levels of success.

As a fitness professional, Javes steps onto a new gridiron – the battle against obesity and other chronic diseases that affect our community. His new goal is to use the skills that helped propel him to the highest level in football, to motivate and excite others in the benefits of living healthy and active lifestyles.
Loran_LLoran Lane is a Registered/Licensed Dietitian from Fort Worth, Texas. She received her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences from Texas Christian University. She is currently working on her Master’s degree through California University of Pennsylvania in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, with an emphasis in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention.
Loran has gained experience working with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes’ as a strength coach intern at Fischer Sports in Phoenix, Arizona, a Sports Nutritionist Intern for the Dallas Cowboys, and Sports Nutritionist Intern for Athletes’ Performance in Frisco, Texas.

Loran considers two main ingredients for optimal performance: nutrition and exercise. Nutrition has just recently been recognized for its impact on performance. Meanwhile, many athletes still do not realize that in order to perform at their best, both exercise and nutrition are required. Loran wants to help athletes see the importance of good nutrition, and help guide them to meet their performance goals.

With over 33,000 followers on Instagram, Chaud is a juicing enthusiast whose passion is to spread information about the healing properties of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Ailments in her family prompted her research in juicing as part of proper nutrition and preventative care, vs. pills and surgeries. Ilen & Lauren Bell are the husband and wife team behind Black Fitness Today, born, in 2011, out of their motivation to change culture, build a platform and lead the charge. Their purpose is to help change the culture towards health and fitness in the African-American community, showcase those who are making an impact, and promote healthier living. They also aim to serve as a platform for African-American fitness and health professionals and enthusiasts who are otherwise overlooked in traditional fitness media.
