Celebrity physician and wellness expert Dr. Ian Smith is well-known for his popular SHRED Diet, but he is also directing his efforts toward helping American sleep better through a partnership with Proctor & Gamble and the National Sleep Foundation. Dr. Ian is an advocate of getting quality sleep and believes a good nights rest begins with an ideal sleeping environment, which includes putting electronics to bed at least 30 minutes before your head hits the pillow, having comfortable linens, and pleasant aromas such as lavender found in Downy® UNSTOPABLES® Dreams™

It’s hard to unwind and turn off your mind at the end of the day, especially when technology like laptops and smartphones are so readily accessible and easy to use in bed,” said Dr. Smith. “In fact, the use of electronics before bedtime is one of the biggest issues doctors notice in patients who struggle to relax in order to fall asleep. That’s why I recommend patients start with simple solutions I’ve tried myself, like turning off electronics at least 30 minutes before bedtime and creating an ideal sleep environment including washing linens and pajamas in the Sweet Dreams Collection.

Don’t sleep on the facts (NSF – Sleep differences among ethnic groups survey)

  • Blacks/African-Americans report losing sleep every night over personal financial concerns (12%) and employment concerns (10%) at a higher rate than Whites (6% and 7%) or Asians (1% and 4%). Hispanics are almost equally concerned each night about these two issues (11% and 9%, respectively)
  • Blacks/African-Americans report getting the least amount of sleep on workdays/weekdays (6 hours and 14 minutes). Interestingly, they also say that they need only 7 hours and 5 minutes of sleep each night to perform at their best during the day, which is significantly less sleep than Asians and Hispanics (7 hours and 29 minutes each).
  • Blacks/African-Americans report getting an average of 34 minutes less sleep on a work night/weeknight than Asians and 38 minutes less than Whites.

Dr. Ian wants you to start your journey towards better sleeping because sleep can have a direct impact on one’s health, either positively or negatively, which is why the celebrity physician and wellness expert is encouraging people to take the “Tuck In. Turn Off.,” pledge while touring the country on a tour of the same name.

Take the pledge and visit your local grocery store to pick up The Sweet Dreams Collection.

The mom of two said she gained 60 lbs during both of her pregnancies and had to work very hard to get back in shape. “I said I wasn’t going to gain 60lbs carrying Sienna…and I did exactly that!” she stated in an Instagram post.

Every postpartum journey is different, but you can’t help but be motivated by Cici! “After delivering my son, a 9-lb. 10-oz. baby, and gaining 60 lbs., I was committed to [returning] to how I felt before I had him. Four months after having him, I was back to my original shape,” she said. “There’s something very empowering about that. Something about that gave me an extra pep in my step, and motivated me even more to go harder.”

Tracee on her body confidence with the Tracy Anderson Method workouts:
“…I have to say that Tracy Anderson’s workout the last five years has been really good for me. I love the studio atmosphere, I love how beautiful and sexy and long and strong I look when I work out, and I love the loud music.

I find that, as adults, we stay so regimented in our movement, even if we get on a treadmill. The music changes all the patterns, and my body gets to move freely, so you feel amazing—which is ultimately the point of the workouts, too. One of the things that’s most encouraging is you see a roomful of women working their asses off and looking beautiful. You see women in their 40s wearing jog bras and their stomachs out proudly, walking in a stance that says, “I love my body,” and that’s exciting to me.”

Kelly on her morning routine: “The first thing I do is at least two or three minutes of meditation. I started doing that after I had my son. It has helped me tremendously. It just puts you in an easier mind space. There’s so much you have to deal with in one day, and I feel like meditation prepares you for anything that comes to you. You won’t flip your lid on the first thing that shakes you up a bit. It puts you at ease.

My favorite thing to eat in the morning is oatmeal. I add a little maple syrup, a little salt, and almond milk, and I’m set. Sometimes I’ll add cinnamon and some raisins and pumpkin seeds. I don’t need caffeine in the morning, but if I have to it’s usually through green tea.

I am a morning workout person. I don’t think I could really be as connected or focused in the afternoon if I didn’t do it… It’s definitely a HIIT workout, and I feel a lot better and more centered from doing it. Having my son really did a number on my body…”
