So what does Jenell suggest to protect the hair, depending on their level of physical activity?

For the lady who is going to the gym and sweats a lot and doesn’t have the time to wash her hair often, I would highly suggest that they invest in a nice good deep conditioner so that way when she finally does shampoo, she can add good moisture back to her hair.

And then for the lady who does have the time to wash her hair some time during the week, I would recommend a co-wash so that she doesn’t necessarily deplete all the moisture out of her hair, but it would give her enough so that she can cleanse her scalp and free her hair from some of the salt that is going to be depositing on her hair from the sweat. I would suggest the ‘As I Am coconut co wash. it is awesome!

For the woman who has natural but has much shorter hair and can afford to wash her hair every single day she could actually use that on a daily basis versus using a shampoo every single day.

For the woman who has longer hair I would say give it two to three days after the initial shampoo and use the co-wash. And then two to three days later, if she wanted to do the full shampoo again she can or another co-wash is fine. But, make sure she shampoos at least every week or two weeks because a lot of salt is depositing on the hair and scalp. And of course the more you sweat, the gunk is building up on your scalp. And we want a healthy, clean scalp to have healthy strong hair!

We asked what some of Jenell’s go-to snacks are during the week.

My favorite go-to before my run is a slice of wheat bread with reduced-fat peanut butter, and half a banana. That’s like a meal that I have three times a week. It is a good fuel for a runner because it is the right balance of carbohydrate and protein as well as sugar to fuel you on a long distance run. And when I am not having something like that, my favorite go-to is a green smoothie hands down.I drink them because it is the one way to keep me 100% accountable about getting my fruits and vegetables in.
