Live Life Without Limits Like Jonathan Stoklosa – Champion Powerlifter With Down Syndrome

Joe Staklosa

Jonathan Stoklosa, 31, of Delaware was born with down syndrome, but that hasn’t stopped him from setting and achieving goals like bench pressing a personal-best 402.5lbs. Stoklosa began lifting when he was 12 years old. When he turned 16 and was able to compete in the Special Olymipcs, he was benching 225lbs—in 1999, he took home the gold medal at the Special Olympics World Games.

Jonathan’s achievements have led to competitions outside of the Special Olympics—competing at least twice a year in Pennslyvania and New York against athletes without intellecual disabilities.

In a recent upstate New York powerlifting competition, Stoklosa placed third in his age division after bench-pressing 402.5 pounds. He also unanimously won the ‘Most Inspirational’ award.
