What do you see in the future for Harlem Run?
I think that Harlem Run is going to become a staple in the community, expanding activities throughout all of Harlem and executing large-scale events that not only engage a wide audience but also create a culture of health and wellness in Harlem. I hope that our events, like the Harlem One Miler, engage more runners (elites and first timers) and raise even more money for local nonprofits, like Harlem United. I have some really creative initiatives and events that I would like to put in place that I believe will make Harlem Run a respected local community group by people across the globe.
What do you see in the future for yourself?
I really want to continue to be a catalyst for change in people’s lives. It has been an incredible experience watching Harlem Run grow and I’m humbled by all of the stories people have shared with me about how Harlem Run has helped them and positively impacted their lives. I imagine myself continuing to do this sort of community work and pursuing opportunities across all platforms (TV/radio/etc.) to showcase the benefits of fitness and running on mental health and the ways in which running can serve to empower people. I dream of sitting down and writing a book about my experiences, using my forthcoming counseling degree and mental health licensure to travel giving psych educational workshops, particularly in underserved communities, and using my growing influence to inspire. Running saved my life – I will continue to spread that message and have a lot of fun along the way.
