Jack Link’s Beef Steak Strips

As a guy who hasn’t traditionally cared for Jerky, I have to say that Jack Link’s new Teriyaki Beef Steak Strips are pretty good! There have only been a couple of brands and flavors of jerky that I have ever tried, so it’s never been a buying option I usually consider. I can stay all day explaining how the idea of vacuum sealed meat is not necessarily ideal but neither are the majority of protein bars for the matter. Anyhow, if you do enjoy most jerky, then you need to try Jack Link’s new Teriyaki Beef Steak Strips!  At 70 calories, 8 grams of protein, and 6 grams of carbs, it makes for a good quick snack on the go. Check out the rest of the review below!

Naked Nutrition – Pea Protein

Over the past year, I have become more open to various types of protein – sometimes trading in my beloved whey for pea protein and hemp protein. I have tried a couple of brands and all have been pretty good. So I was interested to try Naked Nutrition’s pea protein.

I should not have been as surprised as I was upon tasting Naked’s pea protein, because I clearly forgot Naked Nutrition has made it part of their mission to remove all junk, artificial flavors and color from their products. So yeah, this particular version of Naked’s pea protein literally has no flavor and I drank it straight water. Even drinking it with only water, I could tell the product was solid quality. I later tried the protein in a peanut butter-banana smoothie and loved it!

If you must have flavor from your protein, Naked Nutrition offers “Less Naked” pea protein which is flavored.

Overall, Naked Nutrition pea protein is a winner in that it is everything it claims to be and at $54.99 for a 5 lb. tub, which is a solid deal.

Pea protein powder is made by extracting the soluble pea protein from yellow-split peas. It is not the same as ground peas as most of the starch and fiber is removed. Yellow pea protein powder is an excellent source of dietary protein for vegetarians and vegans that cannot use animal / milk based proteins. Naked Pea is a vegan protein made exclusively from raw yellow peas grown in the USA and Canada. Gluten free, dairy free, and soy free; Naked Pea’s superior amino acid profile is the result of processing via mechanical water-extraction without the use of chemicals. Naked Nutrition – Powdered Peanut Butter

Naked Nutrition’s powdered peanut butter — Naked PB — is a great option for folks like me who love peanut butter and cannot be trusted. I love peanut butter. No, really. I love peanut butter. In fact the sweet nectar also know as peanut butter is one of my dieting traps.

This is usually how I end up after I pop the seal on a fresh jar of PB:

I got a chance to try Naked PB for myself. The company is serious about creating products free of junk. According to their website, Naked Nutrition “…strips away all of the marketing and gimmicks that many companies use today. We sell products with only the purest ingredients.”

I could immediately taste the purity. The flavor is very plain and you will need to add your desired flavor. But I can appreciate not having the synthetic ingredients, unlike the vast majority of powdered pb’s and supplements.

You can use Naked PB as a straight substitute for peanut butter by mixing varying amounts of water – small amount to get the consistency of regular peanut butter or toss a scoop or two in a smoothie, shake or foods that you might typically top with peanut butter, like oatmeal.

If you’re on a calorie restriction nutrition plan or just want to looking to take full advantage of a macro driven meal plan, you may want to consider Naked PB to get the full flavor of peanut butter for 1/4 the calories, a low 1.5 grams of fat, and only one ingredient: non-GMO roasted peanuts.

‘SHRED: The Revolutionary Diet’ – What Is It and Can It Help You?

Dr. Ian K. Smith is solving many of dieting’s biggest dilemmas through his popular SHRED diet. The first book in the SHRED series, SHRED: The Revolutionary Diet and follow-up SUPER SHRED: The Big Results Diet, published in 2012 and 2013, respectfully, have “shredders” taking to social media to discuss their various weight loss results. So what is the SHRED diet?

The SHRED diet is a combination of a low GI (glycemic index) diet, meal spacing and meal replacements.  Here’s the best part of the diet: you will be constantly eating. Yes, I said constantly.  It requires shredders to eat four meals or meal replacements, such as soups, smoothies and shakes. Along with the four meal and or meal replacements, shredders can eat three snacks a day throughout the six-week program. The book states that shredders can lose four inches and two sizes all within six weeks.

What makes this diet different? This diet is about reshaping your body via diet confusion.  SHRED is modeled after the strategy called muscle confusion, which helps break you through plateaus of muscle growth.

Throughout the six-week period, the diet consists of different components:

Week 1: Prime. The first week is your introduction to the diet and help adapt your body to the lifestyle change.

Week 2: Challenge. During the second week, you are now getting serious about reducing your calorie intake.

Week 3: Transformation. You will start noticing a difference in how you look and feel.

Week 4: Ascend. Use this week to rebuild strength and gain confidence.

Week 5: Cleanse. This week you being a detox, which allows cleansing of your blood and eliminating toxins from your body.

Week 6: Explode. In the final week, you have established a new lifestyle that you can maintain for a lifetime.

Once you finish week six, you can celebrate but not for too long, as Dr. Ian helps you extend your hard-earned results by kicking it up another notch with “SUPER SHRED…a four-week super-charged program that shares the same principles—meal spacing, snacking, meal replacement, and diet confusion—as SHRED—with twice the intensity and a shorter quick-acting plan. It can be used on its own or in conjunction with SHRED.”

SHRED: The Revolutionary Diet and SUPER SHRED are available in stores and online websites such as, Amazon and Google Play.
