We’re often told that you never know what someone may be dealing with behind closed doors. This is the case for yet another celebrity, Solange Knowles. On Wednesday (Dec. 27), Solange revealed on Instagram that she’ll be canceling her Afropunk performance at New Year’s Eve in South Africa because of her battle with an autonomic disorder.
While Solange did not reveal what type of autonomic dysfunction she is currently experiencing, according to New York Daily News, there are multiple types of disorders and they all come down to the same basics: the [autonomic nervous system] regulates the body’s internal organs, so when important functions like the heart aren’t being properly regulated, it leads to problems with heart rate, blood pressure and digestion, according to NYU Langone’s Dysautonomia Center.
“Wrote, deleted and re wrote this like 5 times…Still not sure what exactly or how much I want to share…However it’s so important to me for the people in South Africa, a place that has tremendous meaning to me and that has given me SO SO MUCH, to know why I won’t be performing at Afro Punk this NYE. The past five months I have been quietly treating, and working through an Autonomic Disorder,” she begins her lengthy Instagram post.
“It been a journey that hasn’t been easy on me,” she writes.” Sometimes I feel cool, and other times not so cool at all. It’s a complicated diagnoses , and I’m still learning so much myself, but right now, my doctors are not clearing me for such an extended lengthy flight, and doing a rigorous show right after.”
